Biography:

Born on east coast of the US (near New York City) in 1970. Went to university (Haverford College) near Philadelphia 1988-1992, and postgraduate (University of Washington) in Seattle, Washington 1992-1994.

In 1994 took up a role as Research Scientist for the NZ Forest Research Institute (currently Scion Research), based at Lincoln University in Canterbury, NZ. In that role, developed a prototype system to measure and grade felled pinus radiata trees with digital image processing and photogrammetry. In 1997, in addition to existing role, became the South Island IT Manager for NZFRI.

Founded Egressive 1998, left NZFRI to pursue Egressive full time early 1999. Cofounder of OpenStrategies in 2000. Co-founder of open source and open standards cluster, the Effusion Group in 2002. Attained NZ Citizenship in 2003.

Finalist, in conjunction with Citizen-Click for “Best Use of Open Source in the Community” award for The Onehunga Enhancement Society at the 2007 NZ Open Source Awards, 2007. Received the “Best Use of Open Source in Business” award at the 2008 NZ Open Source Awards.
