Egressive's Back in Action!

As most people will probably have heard, our home city of Christchurch, NZ was hit by a 6.3 earthquake on 22 Feb just before 13:00. All Egressive staff got out ok, but there were some very close calls. Some of us who were out in town helped try to rescue people trapped under collapsed building awnings and other debris, and in the two crushed city busses. Harrowing experiences we'll never forget.

Now the adrenalin rush has subsided, and we've had a chance to assess our situation. It's a sunny, warm (somewhat aftershocky) day, and we are looking to pick up the pieces and get back to a routine as soon as possible.

Moving Forward

We're committed to helping rebuild Christchurch. The best way to achieve that is to ensure the economy stays viable: that those who can work, are. Unsurprisingly, after 3 major earthquakes in the past 5 months, our immediate project pipeline has largely dried up as local companies focus on more fundamental concerns. That means our staff are here, raring to go - we just need work.

Specifically, we're looking for website/CMS work. We're geared up to do Drupal implementations - both short, quick turn-around projects, and larger meatier ones.

Our development portfolio is strong - see a small sample of our work in our online portfolio. Other reference sites we have implemented include:

  • The NZ Institute of Economic Research (http://nzier.org.nz)
  • The NZ Transport Agency (http://acoustics.nzta.govt.nz and http://air.nzta.govt.nz)
  • Marshall Day Acoustics (intranet, http://marshallday.com http://soundplan.com.au, http://hub.marshallday.com)
  • The NZ Council of Trade Unions (http://union.org.nz)
  • The Cycling Advocates' Network (http://can.org.nz)
  • The NZ Bioprotection Research Centre (http://bioprotection.org.nz) and the Seed Research Centres (http://seedcentre.org.nz) Centres at Lincoln University
  • Trade Aid Image Library (http://images.tradeaid.org.nz - note as of 24 Feb, this is hosted on an in-house server which is not yet back up post-quake)

Note: we built and support all of the above sites. In some cases, we worked with visual concepts provided by other organisations, but most are our work. We also host the majority.

If you or your customers can offer us any work, please contact us!

We are one of NZ's most experienced Drupal development shops. You can read more about our how we work with Drupal.

For the record, our Christchurch-based hosting infrastructure has continued uninterrupted through all of the quakes (hats off to our friends at Unleash, who manage the facility) and we can also work with other hosting .

Update: this is a picture of our (former) building after the 22 Feb quake, taken by one of our team, Jonathan Hunt (@kayakr), on his way past from our temporary offices in the next block. We were on the top floor until the Boxing Day quake. It's a beautiful old art deco building, and a another sad loss to Christchurch. It's not likely to be salvaged given the damage. We know one of our Effusion Group colleagues was on the top floor removing some stuff when the quake hit. He was able to get down the intact stairwell, but said it was an experience he'd be happy enough never to repeat.

In other news we hear that the Link Centre, home of the ViaStrada offices where we've been since Boxing Day, has just been condemned, too. Given that it backs onto the Grand Chancellor hotel, which is huge and very very unhappy (might fall down with the next aftershock), it's probably a redundant condemnation...
