Employment Opportunities
We are a company with a strong culture - it's probably a good idea to familiarise yourself with our ethos to make sure Egressive is the sort of place you'd like to spend quite a lot of time.
Drupal Developers
Egressive was one of the first kiwi businesses to realise the potential of the Drupal platform - as a result, we're also one of the most experienced. We've developed lots of great sites for some excellent customers. Egressive's goal is to demonstrate, beyond a doubt, that we are the authority on Drupal development in NZ... and we're not planning to stop there. To do that we're looking for the best Drupal developers we can find.
When we say "best" we mean that you are:
- well versed in software development best practice,
- excellent commenting practices - design for maintainability
- adherence to code conventions
- use version control - we use Subversion
- understand development theory and methodologies, e.g. object orientation, agile methods, design patterns, abstraction, data schema, test driven development, requirements analysis, etc.
- passionate about open source,
- well spoken and written,
- live and breath the web,
- have good entrepreneurial instincts,
- know Drupal, and understand the "Drupal way". Chances are you've
- got a dog eared copy of "Pro Drupal Development",
- an account on drupal.org,
- have commit privileges on Drupal.org for one or more modules
- and take pride in and ownership of your work.
Contracting
It's a rare individual who meets these criteria. Even if you don't, we may decide to offer you work as a contractor on a project basis. Doing so allows us to determine how you work, and for you to learn how we do.
Employment
For Egressive, offers of employment are based on confidence. We have to be supremely confident that you've got something to offer us and our customers that will help us achieve our goal.
Because Egressive is a small company, we're all generalists to a certain extent. Sure we all have our specialities, but we all have to be competent in other areas too. Working for Egressive, you will, for example, talk directly to customers. In addition to cutting code, you might help us develop proposals or project specifications. We'll expect you to pull your weight. In return, we'll provide you with an unpretentious, often laugh out loud funny, sometimes very intense, welcoming, inquisitive, satisfying, open environment in which to work. A place where you'll have proper challenges that give you the opportunity to prove beyond a doubt that, yes, you do live up to all the hype.
Given all of above, if you believe that you have what it takes to work with us as a contractor or to discuss employment opportunities, then feel free to send us a link to your online CV, or contact us to set up an informal chat.
Internships
In extremely rare cases, we'll take on young designers and developers as interns, and if they demonstrate substantial aptitude and the right attitude, we work with them to develop their skills.
Your CV/Resumé
The ideal CV should be either PDF - or even better: an email introduction with a link to your CV online. Because software development and system administration are all about attention to detail (combined with an appreciation for the big picture), we do take note of your grammar, spelling and your proofreading prowess. We do, of course, take into account the fact that English might not be your first language... Just keep in mind that everyone who works for Egressive represents us in both business and the community. As a result, we think carefully about how any prospective employee might reflect upon us in those contexts.
Please note: we don't use Microsoft Word here, so sending your CV in DOC format is a good way to show us you haven't done your research. CVs delivered in DOC format usually receive a terse response with something about proprietary file formats and little further consideration. We're cruel but fair, and we don't like proprietary formats.
